St. Helena is an island in the South Atlantic, and a British overseas territory. The territory also includes two British dependencies, Tristan da Cunha and Ascension Island. It is most famous as the place of Napoleon's exile after 1815 and his death in 1821. The most recent (2016) population estimate was 4,534. The official language is English and the capital is Jamestown, named after King James II.

The island was discovered by the Portuguese explorer João da Nova on May 21, 1502, the feast day of St. Helena, mother of Constantine.
