Sulla

From Conservapedia - Reading time: 1 min

Sulla (138-78 BC) was a Roman general and dictator during the Republican period. He won Rome's first civil war and his seizing of power as dictator is believed to have set a precedent that led to the seizing of power by Julius Caesar and the advent of the Emperors. Reforms during his time gave the Senate more power. He voluntarily gave up power and died of natural causes.
