The Sunrise Movement bills itself as "a movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process." Sunrise's initial officers Evan Weber, Matt Lichtash, and Michael Dorsey had all been affiliated with either Occupy Wall Street or the Sierra Club. Many of its members are alumni of the 2016 Bernie Sanders campaign. The organization has been criticized for preaching climate change eschatology to elementary school and high school children.[1]

The Sunrise Movement, with established groups in several major cities, is the main cheerleader for the Green New Deal. Sunrise has heavily recruited activists from the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and Liberation Road affiliated groups, such as the Pennsylvania Student Power Network.

The Sunrise Movement is openly endorsed by the DSA and several FRSO-affiliated groups, including Bay Area-based Green For All, which was founded by Maoist and former Obama administration Green Czar Van Jones.

Founding activists Will Lawrence, Dyanna Jaye, and Sara Blazevic are all current trainers with Momentum Community,[2] which is a training workshop funded by millionaires and billionaires to “incubate” supposed "grassroots" organizations such as Sunrise and the Movimiento Cosecha (Harvest Movement), a group dedicated to defending illegal immigrant claims to U.S. citizenship.

The Sunrise Movement targets suburban white adolescents for indoctrination with radical and even violent Cultural Marxist theory to advance ideals such as gay marriage, the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, slave reparations, Abolish ICE, Defund the Police, and violent uprising to achieve racial, social, and "climate justice".[3] Sunrise's 100 Day Siege plan was for the November 2020 Presidential election was activate on July 2020 as part of the 2020 Marxist uprising.[4]

The movement in October 2021 canceled a planned rally at Washington, D.C. over the scheduled presence of three Jewish groups.[5] The Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater DC responded:[6]

The 'opposition to Zionism’ Sunrise DC so proudly espouses constitutes the fundamental denial of the Jewish people’s right to self-determination and is therefore antisemitic at its core.

Funding[edit]

According to corporate filings, Sunrise Movement Education Fund is a registered and active organization in the District of Columbia.[7] It was formally created in January 2014 and has a current address of 50 F St. NW, Suite 800, Washington, D.C. 20001. According to public records, Evan Weber, Michael Dorsey, Becca Rast, and Guido Girgenti are listed as governors of the organization, with Weber listed as CEO.

Only filings for Sunrise Movement Education Fund were located in the District of Columbia’s Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs database; no results were found relating to Sunrise Movement. The U.S. Climate Action Network (US-CAN) awarded the Sunrise Movement Education Fund a “Member Empowerment Grant” in 2018. USCAN claims its grants are to support “collaborations and grassroots leadership” to fight against fossil fuels. According to USCAN, the grant awarded to the Sunrise Movement Education fund will support “in-person convening and coalition-building” to align activists across “environmental, labor, racial justice, and economic justice organizations.” USCAN did not provide specific details regarding the monetary amount of the grant. Additionally, the street address listed on USCAN’s website is identical to that of the Sunrise Movement Education Fund.[8]

ShutDownDC[edit]

To defeat President Trump, Democrats at all levels unleashed a wave of chaos and lawlessness across America. Democrat governors and mayors ordered police to stand down, allowing Democrat rioters to destroy the lives, property, and businesses of taxpayers and citizens in cities across the United States.

ShutDownDC, a progeny of the Sunrise Movement, says on its website:

If You’re in DC: Come to Black Lives Matter Plaza.

On Election Day, when you’re done voting, doing election protection, or getting out the vote, come join us at Black Lives Matter Plaza.

We’re inviting everybody who agrees with these organizing principles to work together to make this uprising happen. We’re going to make sure Trump leaves. From election night on, as the situation changes and evolves we all work together to make that happen.

If You’re Not in DC:

Organize in your community! Find out where the votes will be counted where you live. Make a plan with others to get there and stay until all the votes are counted. And come up with a plan to create serious disruption if Trump really tries to steal the election!

Be ready to block a highway (or all the highways in your town), shut down a port, occupy your state capitol, do whatever it takes! We hope to be able to offer trainings and support to groups outside DC that share our principles.[9]

During a leaked Zoom call highlighting the role of “Shut Down DC,” a spokesman states:

"We have been in discussion for a couple of months about how to respond to different contested election scenarios. The first step is we think we need to start the post-election phase in the streets, so we invite everyone to come to BLM (Black Lives Matter) Plaza any time after 4:00 on election night. On the 5th, we’re going to shut down the White House. On the 6th, we’re going to shut down larger parts of DC and then the following week, all the mainstream groups are going to come to DC and try to have a march on the 7th."

The network enlisted the several key players including Lisa Fithian, a long-time Democrat terror organizer and trainer including stints with Occupy Wall Street, the Obama Ferguson Riots and various unions. In the leaked Zoom chat describing tools and tactics to shut down DC, Fithian states:

"Whoever’s got the guns can win – let’s take over the buildings! We are going to be in a crisis but we want it to be one that we are creating. We want to make sure that we are on the offense and not the defense. We want them to be responding to us and not us responding to them."

ShutDownDC came together during the summer of 2019 to organize to respond to the Youth Climate Strikers Call to Action. It is an organizing space where individuals and organizations can come together to organize direct action for climate justice. On September 23, 2019, 22 affinity groups organized blockades of 17 intersections around the District of Columbia, effectively shutting down traffic in the nation's capital. Over the next several months, DC-based organizers came together in the #ShutDownDC space to organize a continuing series of actions and Marxist training events.[10] The website openly calls for overthrow of the existing order:

We recognize that many of the challenges that we are facing did not start when Trump was elected president and they will not end when he is forced from office.

We are not seeking a ‘return to normalcy,’ because we know that returning to ‘normal’ means returning to a system that was built on oppression. Rather, we see this as the time to rise up against the current crisis and move forward to dismantle the interlocking systems of oppression that have plagued this land for centuries. [...]

But we also recognize that forcing Trump from office is the only way to protect ourselves and the people we love from Trump’s wrath, so we will act with the urgency that the situation requires. [...] we plan to use the tools and tactical approaches that we have the capacity and expertise to implement, including disruptive direct action, mass mobilization, coordinated non-compliance, mutual aid, and other forms of civil resistance.[11]

Dozens of leaked internal documents and Zoom call video footage were leaked describing plans by progressive activists and federal workers to disrupt and destabilize the US presidential election outcome, including plans to “shut down the White House.”[12][13] The information was leaked by a disaffected insider of the “Sunrise Movement,” part of a loose but extremely coordinated network of liberal activists mobilizing around the country in an effort to foment chaos in the wake of a potential Trump victory or a contested election.

A leaked Zoom call featured federal workers, including attorneys and members of the intelligence community, conspiring to use their protected status and positions of power to disrupt and destabilize an outcome beneficial to Donald Trump.[14]

2020 Antifa riots[edit]

Democrat communist millionaire Tom Steyer's NextGen America is also tied to the Sunrise Movement, and according to the New York Times, the two groups “strategize” together.[15] Fix Our Senate is a group of Democrat millionaires and billionaires including Steyer and George Soros to slander and mislead Americans with fake news about Republicans.[16]

Project Veritas infiltrated Rose City Antifa. In an undercover video, Antifa instructors teach white people how to maim and disable people.[17]

A Project Veritas video also introduces Andy Zee, an organizer for Refuse Fascism, a project of the Revolutionary Communist Party, talking about a possible meet-up with Democrat donor Tom Steyer.

“I don’t know if we took the meeting today. We were meeting with his main advisor on impeachment...Tom Steyer’s been retweeting some of our stuff."

Zee said the group was hoping to raise $2M to $5M to organize massive protests in major cities against President Trump. “You’re actually going to sustain millions of people, hundreds of thousands on the streets in certain cities,” Zee explained.[18]

Environmental crisis[edit]

The City of San Francisco official "poop map" to warn tourist of areas to avoid due to reportings of human feces on the street covers Nancy Pelosi's 12th Congressional district.[19]
Main article: Climate Crisis Committee
The House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis was formed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi on a suggestion from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and two Marxist groups known as the Sunrise Movement[20] and the Justice Democrats.[21] Its scope and mandate makes clear its vision:
"The select committee shall have authority to develop a detailed national, industrial, economic mobilization plan for the transition of the United States economy to become greenhouse gas emissions neutral and to significantly draw down greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and oceans and to promote economic and environmental justice and equality."
The Green New Deal advances non-environmental projects, such as "social, economic, racial, regional and gender-based justice."[22] Ocasio-Cortez's claims it will eliminate poverty:
"The Plan for a Green New Deal (and the draft legislation) shall recognize that a national, industrial, economic mobilization of this scope and scale is a historic opportunity to virtually eliminate poverty in the United States and to make prosperity, wealth and economic security available to everyone participating in the transformation."
The new committee is responsible for creating a plan with draft legislation. The Green New Deal was introduced as H.Res.109 on February 7, 2019. Six weeks into Democrat control of the House it already claimed victory for destroying 25,000 jobs.[23] Rep. Carolyn Maloney of New York, who supports the Green New Deal, was livid when her fellow communists killed the prospect of Amazon bringing its main headquarters to New York and creating 25,000 jobs with wages averaging $150,000.[24] Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Ocasio-Cortez took credit for killing the Amazon deal. CNN reported the fight over Amazon is the fight for the future of the Democratic Party. Ocasio-Cortez tweeted:
"Anything is possible: today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon's corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world."
Warren tweeted
"How long will we allow giant corporations to hold our democracy hostage?"
Amazon was promised up to $1.5 billion in tax abatements in exchange for the promise of creating 25,000 jobs. Ocasio-Cortez believes a tax abatement is a bucket of cash the government can spend on subways or teachers. Warren called the tax incentives "bribes."[25]

Democratic debates[edit]

After the Democrat's First Debate in June 2019, the Sunrise activists succeeded in lobbying for two climate forums on CNN and MSNBC in September. Sunrise was quick to note on that it is not satisfied that these were “forums” as opposed to “debates.” Chris Hayes, an editor-at-large with The Nation — a publication that has given copious editorial space to Sunrise, including publishing three separate appeals for reader support for Sunrise just in 2019 — will host the MSNBC forum.

Somehow Washington governor Jay Inslee, who has staked his 2020 presidential campaign on climate change and whose plan Sunrise has endorsed, did not RSVP for the event. In an outburst during the Democratic debate on July 31, 2019 he berated former vice president Joe Biden, yelling, “We cannot work this out! The time is up. Our house is on fire. We have to stop using coal in 10 years!” Neither did Tom Steyer respond. Inslee and Steyer are attempted to separate themselves from the openly communist organization.
