Tai Chi is a martial art originally developed in China. Also called Tai Chi Chuan, the martial art originally developed among Taoist monks but was later influenced by other forms of Chinese thought such as Confucianism and Buddhism. Tai Chi is most easily recognized by the slow, almost dance-like or meditative nature of the movements. In America (and throughout the world), Tai Chi is practiced by individuals from many different backgrounds, but it is particularly popular among Chinese immigrants and New Agers.
