Tartarus (Bible)

In the New Testament, the word Tartarus, referring to a place of darkness, borrowed from the corresponding pagan Greek concept, is used only once.[1] Not all translations from the original Greek manuscripts use the term, and prefer its synonyms "hell," "lower hell,"[2] or "Hades."[3] In the Second Epistle of Peter:[4]

“ For if God did not spare the angels having sinned, but having cast them down to Tartarus, in chains of gloomy darkness, delivered them, being kept for judgment; ”

—2 Peter 2:4 (Berean Literal Bible)

According to prominent Calvinist organization Got Questions Ministries, Tartarus is a "pit" below the level of Hades.[2]
