Terrebonne Parish is a south Louisiana parish with a population of around 112,000 residents. The French name is derived from the term terre bonne, translating to "good land". It has been a consistent stronghold for the Republican Party since the early 2000s.

One well-known Louisiana politician from Terrebonne Parish was Democrat segregationist Allen J. Ellender, who served as a senator for several decades from the state and fiercely opposed civil rights in addition to helping pass liberal legislation, particularly under the presidency of Lyndon Johnson.
