From Conservapedia - Reading time: 1 min

The Prince of Egypt is a 1998 animated film released by Dreamworks Animation that portrays the life of Moses, from his boyhood to when he led Israel out of Egypt. The film is a musical, and its soundtrack has been widely praised. The film stars Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Inaccuracies Between the Movie and the Biblical Account[edit]

The movie, in the beginning, notes that it took poetic license from the Exodus account. Examples of that are shown here:

  • The movie portrays the Pharaoh of the Exodus as Rameses, however, it is widely believed that that particular Pharaoh was Amenhotep II.[1]
  • The movie portrays Moses and Zipporah's relationship as beginning far before Moses fleeing to Midian. This is not portrayed in the Bible.
  • The movie ends at Mount Sinai where Moses received the Ten Commandments. In the Bible, it was followed by the Golden Calf.
