The Third Sacred War was a war of Greek city states fought from 355 to 346 B.C. The Amphictyonic Council of central Greece, supported by Thebes, declared war on Phocis for profaning the temple at Delphi and against its allies which included Sparta and Athens. Philip of Macedon gave support to Thebes and his military skills turned out to be the highlight of the war. Crushing the Athenians and the Phocians, he was elected chairman of the Amphictyonic Council.[1]
