University of Houston is a Texas public university founded in 1927.[2] It was ranked a fourth tier school in US News's 2008 "National Universities: Top Schools" list.[3]

Athletics[edit]

Houston currently has 6 men's and 8 women's sports teams.[1] The football program has won 6 bowl games (while losing 9 and tying 1).[4] It has also made the men's basketball Final Four six times, though never winning a title (losing in 1983 on a last-second shot to North Carolina State).
