The University of Illinois is one of ten worst colleges on the issue of free speech, attaining that ignominious distinction for its campus at Urbana-Champaign.[1] It is the largest public (taxpayer-supported) college in Illinois, having 43,900 students, of whom 31,500 are undergraduates.
Founded in 1867, it is one of the original 37 public land-grant institutions that were established based on the Morrill Act in 1862.
