The University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was founded February 28, 1850. The school was originally named the University of Deseret, but in 1894 was renamed The University of Utah. The school is home to over 28,000 students and 13,760 faculty members.[3]
During the spring 2018 school year,, three school years before hosting the 2020 vice-presidential debate, a queer student in a woodworking class built a "cry closet" which was later installed in the middle of a campus library.[4] The news went viral with a female student's tweet stating, "so my school installed a cry closet in the library LMFAOOOOOOOOO what is higher education" but later replied to her own tweet claiming, "a point of clarification: this was designed and built by a student and cost nothing to the student body or the school, so for everyone bitching about the use of school funds, pls rest easy".[5] While the university responded that the "cry closet was a joke, there are reasons to doubt it as University of Michigan Law School took down from their website that they gave Play-Doh and coloring books to help students cope with the results of the 2016 United States presidential election in regards to Trump Derangement Syndrome.[6]
