VMware Workstation is a popular and powerful virtual machine monitor. Workstation is an application, installed onto a host operating system, and is capable of hosting virtual machines. It is capable of hosting a variety of operating systems, including Windows, Linux, Solaris, FreeBSD, and others. It comes in two versions: Player and Pro.

Licensing[edit]

The Player version is free for personal and evaluation use. Payment is required for production use. It is free for educational use by students that are part of the VMware Academic Program. The Pro version is commercial and has additional features.
