Yisrael Beiteinu

From Conservapedia - Reading time: 1 min

Yisrael Beiteinu (Hebrew: ישראל ביתנו) (English: Israel [is] Our Home}, is a major right-wing political party in Israel.

The party was founded and is led by Avigdor Lieberman, an immigrant from Moldova. It is primarily made up of Russian-speaking Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union and, as such, caters to their interests.

Yisrael Beiteinu holds a right-wing and nationalist point of view and is opposed to most pro-Palestinian affairs. However, Lieberman has proposed a land-swap deal whereby primarily Palestinian towns near the Israeli-Gaza border would become part of a Palestinian state, and primarily Jewish towns would be removed from Gaza. In addition, Lieberman's personal dislike of Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu has kept the party from being part of Likud's coalition, notwithstanding the two parties are generally in agreement on issues of national security. The personal feud has likely affected the party's showing in recent elections, in the current Knesset it holds only seven seats (far down from its heyday).
