Decile

From Encyclopedia of Mathematics - Reading time: 1 min

A value of x at which a distribution function F assumes values equal to j/10 for j=1,,9. If deciles exist, they give a fair idea about the shape of the distribution curve. The distance between the ninth and the first decile is called the inter-decile width, which gives an idea of the scatter of the distribution. A decile is a special case of a quantile.
