Super-oxidized solution

From HandWiki - Reading time: 1 min

A super-oxidized solution (SOS), also known as anolyte solution and oxidative potential water, is an electrochemically processed solution made from water and sodium chloride (NaCl).[1] They may be used during wound care.[1] They are available under a few brand names including Hydrocyn aqua, Microcyn and Microdacyn. Super-oxidized solution is also used as a disinfectant. Rutala and Weber [2] theorize that Super-oxidized water works as a disinfectant because it has high concentrations of Hypochlorous acid and chlorine ions. Freshly made super-oxidized solution used within 2 minutes was shown to achieve a 5-log reduction in pathogens.[2] SOS has historically shown effectiveness in wound healing and antibacterial action.[3]
