Colab (Company Laboratory, LLC) was started by cofounders, Jon Bradford and Michael "Squid" Buchanan after moving from Bloomington, Indiana where they met while at Indiana University, to Los Angeles, California in 2013. They based their business model on their experience as Entrepreneurs in Residence while participating in Start Engine, an LA based Startup accelerator.

Colab takes a founder-first approach to the companies it accepts into its venture program, helping startups bring ideas, resources, and expertise together to create companies that solve problems. Since its start, Colab has founded, advised, and/or invested in over 100 startups. Companies within Colab's portfolio together have raised more than $300m in venture capital, and seen eight exits across its portfolio, with notable acquirers including Google.[1] and Viacom[2]; and most recently, Colab portfolio company, Charge Enterprises was uplisted to Nasdaq in April 2022[3]
