Ecologi is a UK organisation that provides a subscription-based service to fund environmental projects, with a particular focus on tackling the climate crisis. As of June 2021, Ecologi has nearly 16,000 public and a further 6,000 business members, seeing it plant around 1 million trees every 10 days.[1] [2][3][4][5][6]
Having been described as a "subscription service for the planet", Ecologi allows subscribers to calculate their carbon footprint, with funds then used for planting native trees across a range of global projects; with a particular focus on the planting of mangroves due to their strength in creating carbon sinks.[1] Ecologi has also funded a variety of renewable energy projects, assisting communities in reducing their dependence on high-carbon energy sources.[1] Much like a charity, subscribers are given access to Ecologi's financial and supply chain information, alongside providing users with regular updates regarding the planting of user-funded trees through satellite imagery.[1]
Although Ecologi originally began as a non-profit, constraints possessed by its charity status caused stagnation within its early growth rate.[1] By transitioning to a profit-based business, but continuing to align with the ethos of a charity, Ecologi was able to drastically increase its growth rate to better fulfil its objective of reducing 50% of global emissions by 2040.[7]
