History
NAKIVO Inc. was co-founded in 2012 [4] by Bruce Talley, formerly CEO of VirtualFabrix and CoroSoft[5], Sergei Serdyuk, Veniamin Simonov, Nail Abdalla, Margarita Matsko, Oleksii Osypov, and Sergey Yazvinskiy.
The first version of NAKIVO’s software solution, NAKIVO Backup & Replication, was released later that year.[6] NAKIVO Backup & Replication is a backup and recovery solution designed to protect the business data of SMBs and enterprises.[3] Since the first release, NAKIVO Backup & Replication has been expanded, and the latest 10.2 version supports multiple platforms: VMware vSphere,[7] Microsoft Hyper-V,[7] Nutanix AHV,[8] [9] Amazon EC2,[7] Linux and Windows-based workstations and physical servers,[10] and Microsoft 365.[11]
By the end of 2013, the company introduced the Cloud Provider Program and expanded its Partner Program to include over 400 solution providers.[12]
In 2014, the company demonstrated a 202% year-over-year revenue growth.[13]
In 2017, NAKIVO extended its reach throughout the world by increasing the number of software solution providers to over 1,700 across the Americas, Europe, Africa, Middle-East, and Asia-Pacific.[14]
In 2018, the company entered the disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity market by introducing an integrated DR functionality with Site Recovery.[15]
In 2019, launched the Managed Service Provider Program building on the multi-tenancy feature in NAKIVO Backup & Replication to allow MSPs build BaaS, DRaaS and RaaS offerings.[16]
Software
NAKIVO’s product is NAKIVO Backup & Replication, a backup and recovery software solution.[3] When first launched in 2012, NAKIVO Backup & Replication could be installed on Windows and supported backup, replication, and recovery for VMware vSphere virtual machines.[17] The software also received the VMware Ready status[18] that same year, and the company became an Elite VMware Technology partner.[4]
In 2013, NAKIVO added support for Linux systems, AWS integration, and instant file recovery to NAKIVO Backup & Replication.[19]
In 2014, the multi-tenancy functionality was added to the software solution to allow MSPs to offer BaaS, DRaaS and RaaS services.[20]
Subsequent 2014 releases added Flash VM Boot for instant recovery of full VMware vSphere VMs from backups,[21] backup verification[22] and the GFS backup scheme.[22]
Updates released in 2015 added native installation on Synology and Western Digital network-attached storage devices, backup verification, and Repository Encryption functions.[23] [24] [25]
In 2016, the product received the update that allowed it to back up, replicate, and recover Amazon EC2 instances.[26] The update also introduced Instant Object Recovery for Microsoft Exchange.[27]
The update released in 2017 introduced the support for Microsoft Hyper-V, MS SQL integration, Automated VM Failover, Automated Self-Backup, Global Search, and Flash VM Boot for Hyper-V VMs.[28]
In 2018, the solution was updated with advanced Site Recovery workflows, non-disruptive Site Recovery testing, and single-click Site Recovery.[29]
In 2020, the functionality of NAKIVO Backup & Replication was expanded with VMware vSphere 7 support, physical Linux workstation backup, physical machine recovery from backup to VMware VMs, and backup to Wasabi Hot Cloud Storage and backup to Amazon S3.[30] This year too, NAKIVO entered the SaaS data backup market with Backup for Microsoft 365.
