Trueface

From HandWiki - Reading time: 2 min

Trueface is a facial recognition software company. It was founded in 2013 by Nezare Chafni and Shaun Moore. The company was first founded as Chui in 2009, a smart facial recognition doorbell, however it was met with minor success. Later on, in 2017, the company became focused on selling software rather than hardware.[1][2][3]

Technology

Trueface's software uses deep learning. It records the data that is provided and uses it later to make solutions of its own. They made headlines two years ago when they were able to detect a gun as it was being drawn.[4] The company says their database, Fairface, helps to curb the racial bias associated with facial recognition companies. Later, this helped them to get a contract with the United States Air Force. The company also made headlines in 2020 for being able to recognize faces under masks.[5][6][7][8]

Sale to Pangiam

In June of 2021, it was announced that Trueface was sold to the security solutions company Pangiam. Trueface founders, Nezare Chafni and Shaun Moore were reported to have maintained key leadership postions in the company. Pangiam CEO, who served unlawfully as acting United States secretary of homeland security, Kevin McAleenan, said “We are excited to welcome Trueface to the Pangiam family. Shaun and Nezare are pioneering thought leaders whose advances in computer vision have the potential to drive innovation in identity management, data labeling and biometrics,”.[9][10][11][12]
