Hotjar is a behavior analytics company that analyses website use, providing feedback through tools such as heatmaps,[1] session recordings, and surveys.[2] It works with web analytics tools such as Google Analytics to offer an insight into how people are navigating websites, and how their customer experience can be improved.[3] Founded in 2014, Hotjar is run completely remotely by over 100 team members across 20 countries and is used on over 500,000 sites worldwide.[4][5]
Founded in 2014 by Dr. David Darmanin,[6] Hotjar is a privately owned company that builds research and optimization tools for web businesses.[7] Darmanin remains the chief executive of the company and in March 2019 won the EY Malta Entrepreneur of the Year award.[8][9]
The company went through a nine-month beta program, before making Hotjar available to the public and reaching an Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) of €8 Million by June 2017.[10] Hotjar then invested €4million into further expanding the company, which was increased by a further €13million by 2019.[11][12]
