The Hessian Centre for Artificial Intelligence (hessian.AI) (German: Hessisches Zentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz) follows the goal of doing excellent basic research with concrete practical relevance and also to promote the transfer to industry and society. The center, in which 13 Hessian universities are involved, bundles the expertise of 22 AI scientists and expands it through 22 new professorships.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] The spokespersons of the center are Mira Mezini and Kristian Kersting.[2][4]
The establishment of hessian.AI is supported by the state of Hesse with 38 million euros from 2022 to the end of 2024. After establishment, which will be accompanied by the creation of 20 additional AI professorships, the center will be permanently funded by the state of Hesse with 12 million euros annually.[3][11]
