The ON Foundation is a non-for-profit organization based in Lucerne, Switzerland, with the purpose to foster research in the field of orthopedic tissue regeneration, short orthoregeneration, with the purpose to foster research in the field of orthopedic tissue regeneration, short orthoregeneration.
The foundation was launched in 2018 on initiative of Geistlich Pharma AG as third of three foundations founded by Geistlich. While the other two foundations, Osteology (est.2003) and Osteo Science (est. 2013)[1] are settled in regenerative dentistry as well as oral and maxillofacial surgery, ON is the only foundation launched by Geistlich focusing on orthopedics, as Dr. Matthias Dunkel, COO of Geistlich Pharma AG pointed out in an interview with the Indiatimes.
After ON was approved as NPO by Swiss authorities on March 12 2018[2], the foundations’ work officially started. Though ON is launched and funded by Geistlich Pharma AG, the foundation is independent, following its interests unaffected by the product portfolio of the founding company. According to the register of corporations of the canton Lucerne the foundations’ board consists of six members, including an executive director and a representative of the founder. In case of a conclusion of contract the covenant has to be signed by two members authorized to sign together. To ensure the foundations’ independence from the founding company the executive director is not authorized to sign with the representative of the founder.
In order to fulfill its purpose the ON Foundation supports medical professionals within the scope of scholar- and fellowships and speaking grants , worth $ 500 (so-called Education Grant),$ 1000 (so-called Education Scholarship), $ 10000 (so-called Kick-Starter Grant), $ 25000 (so-called Pilot Grant). Furthermore, the foundation provides a network that shall support the exchange and the collaboration between the groups pertained to orthoregeneration.
As mentioned by Dr. Matthias Dunkel in his interview with the Indiatimes, the ON Foundation collaborates with other research societies. Current partners are the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), The American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine (AOSSM) [3], the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS), the International Cartilage Regeneration & Joint Preservation Society (ICRS) and others.
