Residuals

The (usually small) quantities expressing the degree to which constraint equations or other systems are not satisfied due to measurement errors or approximate parameters. Most iterative solution methods use the repeated evaluation of residuals, and often minimization of some function of residuals ( e.g. Least Squares Method).
