A decentralized social network is an Internet social networking service that is not controlled and operated by a single entity. The aim is to give users more power, freedom, and privacy.
Kinds of decentralized social networks
There are two major kinds of decentralized social network:[1]
- Federated social network, where the network is composed of a federation of servers. There are more users than servers.
- Distributed social network, where there is no server. All users operate their own node.
