Ronnie "Bubba" Tullos (born October 10, 1967) is an American law enforcement officer who has served more than three decades with the San Jacinto County Sheriff's Office, where he holds the rank of Sheriff's captain. A veteran of the Texas State Guard and longtime first responder, Tullos entered politics as a Republican, running for the Texas House of Representatives in 2022, and for Governor of Texas in the 2026 Texas gubernatorial election.[2][3]

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

A native of Texas, Tullos resides in Splendora, Texas within Montgomery County. He graduated from Hargrave High School and attended both Houston Community College and Lone Star College. Information on his specific field of study or degree has not been publicly disclosed.[2]

Career[edit | edit source]

Tullos has worked in law enforcement for more than 30 years, serving the San Jacinto County Sheriff's Office in multiple roles related to patrol, investigations, and community engagement. He was eventually promoted to the rank of captain, overseeing operations and personnel within the department. Earlier in his life, he also worked as an ironworker, a trade he has described as formative to his understanding of working-class Texans.[2][4]

In 2021, at age 53, Tullos enlisted in the Texas State Guard, citing a lifelong commitment to community service and public safety. His responsibilities include assisting with emergency relief, disaster logistics, and state defense support missions. In addition to his law enforcement duties, he continues to serve as a first responder in his local community.[3]

Political candidacy[edit | edit source]

Tullos entered public life as a Republican candidate. In 2022, he ran in the Republican primary for Texas House of Representatives District 18, which includes parts of Liberty, San Jacinto, and Walker counties. He received 11.6 percent of the vote but was defeated by incumbent Ernest Bailes.[2][5]

In 2025, Tullos announced his candidacy for Governor of Texas in the 2026 election cycle. The Republican primary is scheduled for March 3, 2026, followed by the general election on November 3, 2026.[2][6] His campaign slogan, Texas for Texans, emphasizes border security, government transparency, fiscal restraint, Second Amendment rights, and traditional social values centered on faith, family, and freedom.[4][7]

Tullos has stated that his motivation for seeking office stems from a desire to advocate for “everyday Texans,” with emphasis on reducing government waste, opposing sanctuary policies, and strengthening local law enforcement agencies.[2]

Personal life[edit | edit source]

Tullos identifies as a Christian and is known colloquially by his nickname “Bubba.” He resides in Splendora, Texas, and remains active in community and volunteer initiatives.[2][3]
