Islam Islam is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion founded by Muhammad in 600 or so. Islamic civilization was once relatively progressive and the center of human scientific achievement; now, Islam is most often found in regimes that tend to be anti-science, authoritarian theocracies that squelch all dissent, or fringe radical groups that promote their belief through bloodshed.
