Michael L. Brown (1955–) is a Bible-thumping homophobe who regularly contributes to Townhall.com and WND as well as serving as Head of the Coalition of Conscience, a small group of Christian Fundamentalists. He is also a member of the New Apostolic Reformation.[1]
His main focus is his obsession with homosexuality and gay marriage, where he pretends to feel persecuted by gay activists. He's also a "Messianic Jew".
In his book A Queer thing happened in America Brown lays out his paranoia around the "gay agenda". He says that gay activists will force their beliefs on others through a slippery slope process:
Brown does not believe homosexuality is an "immutable" and "innate" characteristic of someone's personality. He also says he prays for transsexuals because Brown thinks they're just confused. Brown believes that "demons" are responsible for homosexuality (as well as porn and drug addiction) and if gays are freed of demonic influence they will become heterosexuals.[3] Brown is slightly more clever than the average homophobe because he preempts the fact he will be called out for his homophobia by pointing out that anyone with half a brain will call him out on it, and he believes this proves him correct that he's persecuted. While most normal people would see this as Brown's twisted way of creating a catch-22 for gay activists, who have to either let him get away with his homophobia or point it out and make him look like the "victim", it appears to be viewed as genuine proof by fellow wingnuts that he's not homophobic.
In mid-2018, Brown's name was thrown around in the mainstream for a bit when he was involved in a YouTube scandal after his homophobic ads inexplicably aired before LGBT YouTubers' videos, causing an outrage.[4] Unsurprisingly, his response was condescension towards his detractors and an appeal to his groupies to please like his videos on YouTube, as the like/dislike ratio was growing rather uncomfortable.[5] YouTube eventually apologized for the whole debacle and said they were "taking action,"[6] which hopefully means Brown won't make a single red cent from his soapbox-ish videos again. One can only dream.
"The war is on against people of conscience and people of faith who do not affirm homosexual practice, no matter how loving and fair-minded they may be."[7]
"I have friends who identified as transgender and who had GID who are healed and transformed by the power of the gospel."[8]
"...the battle lines have been drawn, the enemy is taking ground, and many of us hardly realize that the war is on. The devil is moving forward with energy and aggression. What in the world are we doing?" -Brown on gay marriage
"YouTube has determined that no one can advertise on our video, making it ineligible for financial profit, even it was viewed 10 million times."[9] Brown, speaking about this video, which had 113,000 views at the time of this writing. In fact, at this point his entire channel doesn't have ten million views altogether. Lying is a sin, Doc.
