The Workers World Party is an incredibly weird Marxist splinter group that split from the Socialist Workers Party in 1959. The points of contention were the SWP's opposition to the Soviet invasion of Hungary in 1956 and to the excesses of the Mao regime. While it still considered itself Trotskyist for a brief period after the split, it soon referred to itself as Marxist-Leninist. They have since gone down the loony path of embracing corruption and brutality the world over as long as it is not done under the authority of western capitalist power. If you're a corrupt, brutal despot with the right credentials, the WWP is gonna love ya!

International Honor Roll[edit]

  • Supported the Soviet invasion of Hungary (of course).
  • Supported Mao's Great Leap ForwardWikipedia, which led to millions of Chinese starving.
  • Supported the Chinese invasion of Tibet.
  • Supported the Chinese Cultural Revolution. By the late 1960s, they were just acting like good little Maoists.
  • Supported the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968.
  • Supported the crackdown in Tiananmen Square, even though by that time, they regarded the Chinese government as "reactionary." Just fun seeing those tanks rolling and showing those pesky students who's boss, huh?
  • Sang the praises of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il as great revolutionary leaders while the starvation and repression of their subjects were well known. Unknown attitude towards Kim Jong-un.
  • Sang the praises of Slobodan Milošević of Serbia as an anti-imperialist leader (WTF?).
  • Sang the praises of Saddam Hussein of Iraq as an anti-imperialist leader (WTF?).
  • Sang the praises of Muammar al-Gaddafi of Libya as an anti-imperialist leader (WTF?).
  • Sang the praises of Bashar al-Assad of Syria as an anti-imperialist leader (WTF?).
  • Sang the praises of Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus as an anti-imperialist leader (WTF?)

But even a stopped clock is right twice a day…[edit]

WWP organized the first demonstration against US involvement in Vietnam, in 1962.

The WWP front group, Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER), was at the forefront of organizing the first demonstrations against the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. They expressed a groundswell of opposition to that war that left the heads of the spineless Democrats who supported the war spinning. Fortunately, the relationship between ANSWER and the group that praised Saddam Hussein as an anti-imperialist leader was never disseminated by the mainstream media.[citation needed]
