This court holds the following jurisdiction:[1]
| “ | The 1979 Legislature created the Montana Water Court to expedite and facilitate the statewide adjudication of over 219,000 state law-based water rights and Indian and Federal reserved water rights claims. The Water Court has exclusive jurisdiction over the adjudication of water rights claims.[2] | ” |
Selection method[edit]
Judges of the Montana Water Court are each appointed to a four-year term by a majority vote of a committee composed of district court judges.[3] To serve on this court, a judge must be a U.S. citizen, a state resident for two years and admitted to practice law in Montana for five years.[4]
