Edward VI (12 October 1537 - 6 July 1553) was crowned the King of England at the age of 9 upon the death of his father Henry VIII. The First Book of Common Prayer was introduced under his reign (1549). He died of consumption when he was 15. Reports vary if he was always in poor health or if he merely got sick and died. He was succeeded by his older half-sister Mary I, a Roman Catholic, known to her Protestant enemies as "Bloody Mary".
