The lake is formed by the Rhône River, which enters it at the east end between Villeneuve, Switzerland, and Saint-Gingolph, France, and leaves it at the west end through the city of Geneva. The biggest cities and towns on the lake are Geneva, Versoix, Nyon, Gland, Rolle, Morges, Lausanne, Vevey, Montreux, Villeneuve, Saint-Gingolph, and le Bouveret in Switzerland and Chens-sur-Léman, Messery, Nernier, Yvoire, Excenevex, Sciez, Anthy-sur-Léman, Thonon-les-Bains, Évian-les-Bains, Lugrin, Meillerie en Saint-Gingolph in France.[1]
