    Salary

From Conservapedia - Reading time: 1 min

Salary is money given in payment to a person as remuneration for their work as an employee. In general, the term is used to describe payment in a lump sum, regardless of hours worked. Those who get paid by the hour receive wages.

The word salary derives from the Latin for salt as in the approving saying, "He's worth his salt." In ancient times, salt was a very expensive commodity, and Roman soldiers were sometimes payed in salt.
