Statin drugs

These are often prescribed because many believe that low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is unhealthy. By reducing the quantity of LDL in a person's bloodstream it is believed that they will have a reduced risk of heart attacks and other heart problems.[1][2]
Controversy[edit]
Although the western medical community accept this idea, some disagree and claim that statin drugs themselves cause problems, while cholesterol of both types is actually healthy to consume.[3] Instead, they say that hydrogenated oils which are offered as healthier options are themselves harmful. Further, these doctors and scientists say that people should be more concerned about which oils they eat based on whether they contain Omega-3 or Omega-6 rather than what kind of cholesterol they contain.[4][5]
