Sundhnúksgígar (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈsʏntˌn̥uksˌciːɣar̥]) is a volcanic crater east of Eldvörp–Svartsengi and it is named after Sundhnúkur, which is a crater just south of Sundhnúksgígar. The first eruption in the crater took place about 2000 years ago. In December 2023, as part of the Sundhnúkur eruptions, part of the crater began to erupt.[1] On 14 January 2024, a second eruption began as a result seismic activity that began from the Sundhnúksgígar crater.[2]
