Globsyn Business School (GBS) is a business school in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. It was established in 2002 and is recognized as Institute of the Year – East by ASSOCHAM at the 16th International Education Leadership & Skill Development Summit 2023. GBS is also ranked among the Top 5 B-Schools in Eastern India as per Business India’s Best B-Schools Survey 2020.

The B-School offers 2-year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) and Post Graduate Diploma in Management - Business Analytics (PGDM - Business Analytics), which are approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Master of Business Administration (Global) in partnership with Malaysia University of Science and Technology.

The visionary founder Bikram Dasgupta established the institute, and now Director and Trustee, Rahul Dasgupta, is carrying on the legacy of GBS.

History[edit]

Driven by innovation, research, and technology, industry veteran Mr. Bikram Dasgupta conceived the idea of a business school that would integrate contemporary technology and management education. The result was the birth of Globsyn Business School in 2002 setting foot in its 22nd year in 2024. Operated by the Dasgupta Family and guided by the Legacy Team, Globsyn Business School, located in Kolkata and known as GBS, has emerged as the country's pioneering corporate business school, establishing itself as a reputable brand in the education sector.

What began in a modest 10,000 sq. ft. building at Techno Campus with an initial class of 40 bright young minds evolved into a cutting-edge modern Work Habitat in 2006, called Globsyn Crystals. Later, it expanded to the splendid 100,000 sq. ft. Globsyn Knowledge Campus in Amtala, West Bengal. Globsyn Business School believes in taking ordinary people to an extraordinary level and staying true to its belief the B-School has empowered 3500+ ambitious youngsters to advance in their professional careers.

Campus[edit]

Globsyn Business School, Kolkata opened its doors in 2002 in a small 10,000-square-foot structure on Techno Campus. then, in 2006, it established a campus at Globsyn Crystals, which was then relocated to a 100,000 square-foot lush green residential Globsyn Knowledge Campus, Amtala. The GBS campus has cutting-edge facilities such as a hybrid classroom, library, canteen, MBA lounge, study hub, and hostel, dubbed GBS Student Home, among others, to assist its cutting-edge education.

Globsyn Business School offers three postgraduate management courses- two PGDM courses AICTE-approved and one MBA (Global) course in association with the Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST).

PGDM[edit]

GBS's PGDM programme is AICTE-approved and includes specializations in finance, marketing, human resources, information systems, and operations management. The PGDM programme is meant to provide students with career possibilities with major business firms such as Deloitte, Amazon, Asian Paints, and others. To be qualified for this course, one must have a 50% or higher in 10th, 12th, and Graduation, as well as a minimum 50% cut-off in CAT/MAT/CMAT/XAT/ATMA.

PGDM-Business Analytics (BA)[edit]

One of the most sought-after courses in the contemporary business world, GBS offers a 2-year full-time (AICTE-approved) PGDM-BA programme. The main focus of this programme is to make students ready to face the world of data. This postgraduate program teaches everything from collecting data to analyzing it and forming business decisions out of it.

MBA (Global)- International Business[edit]

The MBA (Global) course is created quintessentially for high flyers who are quick to make a career beyond national boundaries. This degree programme, offered in collaboration with Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST)^[2], provides students with a real-world management education experience, with lessons taught by international faculty, offering young managers a bird's-eye view of the worldwide economic landscape.

Admission[edit]

For PGDM and PGDM-BA programmes, candidates are required to have 50% marks in graduation (10+2+3) with at least 50% cut-off in one of these entrance exams XAT / MAT / ATMA / CAT/ CMAT.

For admission to MBA (Global) programme, one needs to hold a Bachelor’s degree (10+2+3) or its equivalent and must have a valid score in exams like CMAT, CAT, MAT, XAT, or ATMA.

The AICTE accredits Globsyn Business School’s PGDM and PGDM-BA programmes. Its MBA (Global) programme in International Business is offered in collaboration with the Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST)]. Besides these accreditations, GBS is also recognized by the Association Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the American Marketing Association (AMA). Hybrid Classroom[edit]

Globsyn Business School has taken a step toward being a forerunner in the construction of Hybrid Learning Classrooms for its students. Hybrid classrooms^[7] aid the teaching-learning process remotely. Students can use virtual classrooms to engage with their teachers, attend classes, take notes, and check assessment grades, among other things.

Hostel or Globsyn Student Home[edit]

The Hostel, aka Globsyn Student Home, on the GBS campus is fully operational, with twin-sharing rooms and other necessities for a comfortable stay. Residing in the Globsyn hostel is a great way for students to start their two-year management studies at the B-School. Also, Globsyn Business School supports students looking for nearby hostel rooms.

Study Lounge[edit]

GBS houses a study lounge- the Nest Lounge, which facilitates meaningful conversations among students. Dotted with comfortable couches and bean bags, this is dedicated to a casual environment for highly passionate discussions and brainstorming sessions. Students can have fun by participating in activities such as table tennis, pool, or board games.    

Library[edit]

GBS has a well-stocked library housing more than five thousand books and journals. The library is a sanctuary for students where they can find whatever book they require along with over one lakh e-books. In addition, the B-School has an eLibrary, a digital library that is constantly growing, with more than 500 books and 100+ videos added each week. This guarantees that students have continual access to a multitude of information, making management education more accessible to them.

Cafeteria[edit]

Students at GBS can refresh themselves with a cup of piping hot coffee and a sandwich at the cafeteria. The cafe, also known as Jonathan's Cove, serves nutritious and delicious refreshments throughout the day.

Medical Room[edit]

Within the GBS campus, the GBS medical room is furnished with first aid supplies to meet students' urgent medical needs.

Learning Beyond Education[edit]

Leadership is not just about leading a company but people. So, Globsyn Business School extends the scope of learning beyond the classrooms into real life. Globsyn Annual Lecture Series[edit]

Every year, the Globsyn Annual Lecture Series is held, drawing sizable crowds from the business community to support the growth of the Globsyn brand among corporations.

Globsyn Management Conference[edit]

The goal of the Globsyn Management Conference is to promote intellectual exchange and camaraderie among faculty members providing postgraduate management education. This is accomplished by holding seminars like the Vision Seminars and Research Seminars and listing the Globsyn Management Journal in the EBSCO catalog, among other things.

Globsyn Alumni Engage (GAE)[edit]

GAE is an effort by GBS to establish a more personal connection with the 3500+ alumni and include them in all facets of the B-school's operations. As part of this program, former B-School students could return to their school and speak to current students about their experiences working in real-world settings.

Embryon[edit]

Embryon, Globsyn Business School's entrepreneurship cell, allows GBS students to put into practice their theoretical understanding, thoughts, and ideas to generate viable business proposals throughout their academic path. This provides a venue for GBS students to submit their business proposals to a panel of impartial experts, including industry veterans.

Kalyani Youth Leadership Forum (KYLF)[edit]

The brainchild of Bikram Dasgupta, the Kalyani Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting persons through various social programs and empowering them through meaningful activities. Mr. Dasgupta founded the Kalyani Youth Leadership Forum (KYLF) in partnership with Globsyn Business School students as part of their management curriculum to further the aims of the Kalyani Foundation. Under the auspices of KYLF, the 'Care for Society^[9]' initiative allows students to contribute to societal progress while also developing them as devoted and compassionate managers and more humane individuals.

Serendipity[edit]

To give students a taste of the real world of work, GBS organizes Serendipity under its “Beyond Education” program. This program resembles a real-world project, with specialized teams in Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Operations, and other areas. Students are tasked with orchestrating a successful business endeavor, which includes the design and execution of a multi-day, large-scale event.

COVID-19 & Education in the New Normal[edit]

With the mission to incorporate innovation in management education, Globsyn Business School started its journey in 2002. The B-School has been working relentlessly to stand true to its mission. And it exhibited a similar spirit in post-COVID-19 when everything was viewed through the lens of the “new normal^[12].”

The new normal saw a transition from offline to online education. Although nothing can replace classroom education, GBS made learning increasingly self-paced and immersive by transitioning from a ‘Brick Model’ to a ‘Click Model.’ It accomplished this by establishing a hybrid mode.' The B-School has established Hybrid Learning Classrooms (HLC), which have aided in personalized education by combining the flexibility of remote learning with the consistency of in-class instruction.
