隱翅蟲總科（學名：Staphylinoidea）是多食亞目甲蟲之下的一個總科，屬於隐翅虫下目的一員。本總科廣佈世界，多樣性高，已命名物種有五萬八千種以上[1]。
特徵[编辑]
大多數物種為中小型甲蟲，有一對縮短的鞘翅（elytra）。The hind wings have no accessory posterior ridge (locking device), no wedge cell and apical cell. Abdominal 8th segment not entirely invaginated in the 7th. Head mostly without coronal suture.[2]
系統分類及演化[编辑]
根據Beutel & Leschen (2005) 透過比對隱翅蟲下目各物種的成蟲及若蟲的121項外形特徵，綜合出本總科之下應包括下列七個科[3][4]：
- Agyrtidae C.G. Thomson 1859
- Hydraenidae Mulsant 1844
- 球蕈甲科（Leiodidae Fleming, 1821 = Anisotomidae）
- Ptiliidae Erichson 1845
- Cephaloplectinae or Limulodidae Sharp 1883
- Scydmaenidae Leach 1815
- 埋葬虫科（Silphidae Latreille, 1807）
- 隐翅虫科（Staphylinidae Latreille, 1802）
儘管本總科物種的明确化石记录可以追溯到三叠纪[1]，但可能起源於中生代早期[5]。
