    Dr. Daniel Flanders is a Toronto pediatrician[1] who is commonly cited in Canadian news media about issues of child health and wellbeing.

    Career[edit]

    Physical activity advocacy[edit]

    In 2014 Flanders spoke out against schools limiting children's physical activities by keeping them indoors during cold weather.[2]

    In 2017 he advocated for limits on children's use of electronic devices with screens.[3] He warned of health risks of devices in 2018[4] and in 2019 he advocated for more study to find new ways to reduce the amount of time children spend on electronic devices.[5]

    Support for generic pharmaceuticals[edit]

    In 2015 Flanders advised parents to favour Generic drug pharmaceuticals over brand names.[6]

    Warnings against pharmaceutical sedation of children[edit]

    In 2018 Flanders warned of the risks of using sedative pharmaceuticals on children when flying on airplanes.[7]

    Breastfeeding advocacy[edit]

    In 2018 Flanders spoke in support of ice hockey player Serah Small who was being criticized for being photographed breastfeeding her child.[8][9][10]

    Influenza[edit]

    In 2016 he criticized inconsistent advice from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which different from Public Health Agency of Canada support for Live attenuated influenza vaccine|FluMist nasal influenza vaccine for children.[11]

    Flanders opened a drive-through COVID-19 vaccination clinic at his clinic.[14]

    In 2020 Flanders reported being asked for Medical cannabis several times a week, but stated rarely does medial evidence support its use.[15][16]
