Overview[edit | edit source]

There are no x-ray findings associated with oral cancer. However, a chest x-ray may be helpful in diagnose metastases to the lungs, a site for spread and metastasis to hilar lymph nodes, ribs, or vertebrae. Jaw radiography may show invasion but may be inadequate to exclude bone invasion.

X Ray[edit | edit source]

• There are no x-ray findings associated with oral cancer.
• However, a chest x-ray may be helpful in:
  • Diagnosing metastases to the lungs.
  • Diagnosing a site for second primary carcinoma.
  • As a pre-anesthetic check.
  • Demonstrating metastasis to hilar lymph nodes, ribs, or vertebrae.
• Jaw radiography may also show invasion but can be inadequate by excluding bone invasion.
