In medicine, stasis means the state in which the normal flow of a body liquid stops, for example the flow of blood through vessels or of intestinal contents through the digestive tract.
Virchow's Triad[edit | edit source]
Stasis is one of three components of Virchow's triad which describes the three broad categories of factors that are thought to contribute to thrombosis:
- Hypercoagulability
- Hemodynamic changes (stasis, turbulence)
- Endothelial injury/dysfunction
