Vicenzino Manipulations

From Wikidoc - Reading time: 2 min

Vicenzino Manipulations are a series of manipulations to both the elbow and the ankle/foot to cure Tennis Elbow and over-pronation at the ankle respectively. As with most manipulations (as opposed to mobilisations) the techniques involve hard thrusts at the end of range, which aim to correct biomechanical faults, ease pain, and restore range of motion utilizing the benefits of joint cavitation. The techniques were popularized by Bill Vicenzino of the University of Queensland.

Humero-Ulnar Joint[edit | edit source]

The manipulations at the elbow deal completely with the treatment of Lateral Epicondylalgia or Tennis Elbow. The main, and most promising, Vicenzino manipulation at the elbow is a fast lateral thrust to the joint itself (actually a varus stress, provided the distal ulna is stabilised)[1]. The manipulation causes cavitation, which mobilises the joint, thus improving range of motion, and decreasing pain.
