The 2025 Asia Cup will be the 17th edition of the men's Asia Cup cricket tournament. It is scheduled to take place in India in October 2025 with the matches to be played in T20I format. The tournament will serve as a crucial preparation for the teams that qualified for the 2026 T20 World Cup. India are the defending champions.[1]
The tournament will feature 6 teams. The five full members of the Asian Cricket Council; Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka automatically qualify for the tournament and they will be joined by United Arab Emirates, who qualified after winning the 2024 ACC Men's Premier Cup.[2]
On 28 July 2024, the information was revealed following the Asian Cricket Council's (ACC) release of an Invitation for Expressions of Interest (IEOI) document on Saturday. This document invites interested parties to submit their IEOI for ACC Sponsorship Rights for the period from 2024 to 2027. The document also mentioned that all details, including schedules, dates, formats, and venues, are tentative and subject to change at the ACC's discretion without any liability.[3]
The groups and format of the tournament will follow a similar structure to previous tournaments, with the six teams split into two groups of three. The top two teams from each group will qualify for a single-group Super Four stage. The top two teams in this stage will contest the final for the Asia Cup trophy.[4]
The five full members of the Asian Cricket Council qualified automatically for the tournament while the United Arab Emirates joined them after winning the 2024 ACC Premier Cup.[5]
