20 January – 2024 Kolkata rape and murder : The Sealdah Court in Kolkata sentences Sanjay Roy to rigorous life imprisonment following his conviction in the 2024 Kolkata rape and murder case .[ 18]

Thirteen people are killed and 15 others are injured after a passenger train collides with a group of people that disembarked from another train following a false fire alarm near Pachora , Maharashtra .[ 19]
