Akyar (Kurdish: Mervanîye; Syriac: Marwaniye)[2][nb 1] is a village in the Gercüş District of Batman Province in Turkey.[4] The village is populated by Kurds of the Kercoz tribe and had a population of 256 in 2021.[1][5]

History

Marwaniye (today called Akyar) was historically inhabited by Syriac Orthodox Assyrians.[6] There were ten Assyrian families in 1915.[7] Amidst the Sayfo, all but one of the Assyrians at Marwaniye were murdered.[2] By 1987, there were no remaining Assyrians.[7]
