Administrative divisions of Sweden

From Wikipedia - Reading time: 1 min

Modern Sweden is divided into counties and municipalities. There are also three metropolitan areas of Sweden which exist in parallel to the main subdivisions and are used for planning and statistical purposes. The metropolitan areas of Sweden should not be confused with the urban areas in Sweden, based on the concept of tätort. See subdivisions of Sweden for further details.

Historically Sweden was divided into lands and provinces. The provinces were also subdivided. In some parts of the country the third tier subdivisions were called hundreds and in others they were called court districts.

There is also a Church of Sweden parish system.
