Cab over vehicles

From Wikipedia - Reading time: 3 min

A "cab over/cab forward" vehicle is one where the driver is situated on top, or forward, of the front axle, and the engine is installed between the front wheels, centrally located underneath the vehicle, or behind the rear axle. Most of the vehicles in this category are either trucks, buses, or vans. One characreristic appearance of these vehicles is a vertical front, flat face or a semi-hood, meaning there is no extended section that accommodates an engine bay or storage compartment. Many examples initially began as situating the driver on top of the front axle, but as the vehicle underwent changes to improve crash performance in frontal impacts, the engines have been pushed forward, while still maintaining the appearance of a cab over vehicle.
