This category is for the twelve rural municipalities in Nova Scotia that are incorporated as district municipalities .[ 1] They are alternately referred to as municipal districts by Statistics Canada .[ 2] As mandated by provincial legislation, their official legal names follow the format of "Municipality of the District of... ".[ 1]
