- Gharb Al-Andalus (711-1249) — the western region of the Moorish Al-Andalus Islamic Iberian empire, corresponding to the present day Algarve Region in Portugal.
- During this period of Muslim rule several scientific improvements were made, namely agricultural and astronomical. These would be vital for 15th century expansion of Portugal.
