Polish–Lithuanian Union
(1385–1569), or
United Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania
— a series of acts and alliances between the
Kingdom of Poland
and the
Grand Duchy of Lithuania
. The two countries remained distinct under a personal union that began when the Grand Duke of Lithuania married the Polish monarch. They federated in 1569 as the
Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth
