This category includes hip hop artists and groups from the southern United States who either have been instrumental to the subgenre, have had a considerable amount of exposure (such as in the case of one that has been on a major label, but not limited to such), or have gained significant critical acclaim. This includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
