The Council of Ministers (Arabic: مجلس وزراء سوريا, romanized: Majlis wuzarāʾ Sūriyā) was first constituted in the Syrian Constitution of 1930. Following the fall of the Assad regime on 8 December 2024, Syria is currently undergoing a political transition, with Ahmed al-Sharaa leading a Syrian transitional government.
Cabinet in the Constitution
[edit]With the 2012 Constitution of Ba'athist Syria suspended following the fall of the Assad regime,[1] the new 2025 Interim Constitution establishes a presidential system in which executive power is concentrated in the hands of the president,[2] who appoints the ministers without the position of prime minister.[3]
Syrian transitional government
[edit]The first post-Assad government was formed following the fall of the Assad regime on 8 December 2024. Outgoing prime minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali continued in that role as a caretaker until Mohammed al-Bashir was designated as prime minister on 10 December 2024.[4]
On 29 March 2025, the caretaker government was replaced by the Syrian transitional government, announced by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Damascus,[5] in which the new ministers were sworn in and speeches delivered outlining their agendas.[6][7]
